How Can I Be One Of The Best Students In My Class?

Over the years, this question has been one of the numerous questions students asked especially students that are just gaining admission into higher institutions. Being the best student is every student’s dream. We all want to make our families proud. We want to make good grades in the higher institution. We all want our image to remain in the minds of many.

Yes that’s all we want as a student. But it is not as easy as we think. It requires commitment. It requires one to work hard in other for him to achieve it. It is not matter of thinking or talking about it but what matters is making it come to reality. As we all believe that nothing is impossible, being one of the best students in the class is very simple.

In this post, I will try to answer the above question that students usually ask; which is “How can I be one of the best students in my class?” I will be discussing some of points that we need in other for us to make it to that level.

There are many advantages associating with being the best student. Having a good grade after graduating has a lot of advantages. Few among all is that; it gives you more recognition, many people seriously want to see that brainbox. In my school for example, if you graduate with first class (1st class), you will become an instant lecturer. Many companies and offices needs an intelligent people. So knowing what you do in the school and graduating with good grade will give you opportunity in those field of work.

Without wasting any much time, let dive to what you must do to achieve your dream of being one of the best students.

1. Resume school on time:

Resuming early can be stressful, you end up being the guy (or lady) that everybody asks for information on what is going on in class. If you’re very sociable you end up even writing assignments, write friend’s names on the attendance sheet, or maybe in extreme cases you write tests for them. Moreover, if you resume late you end up being at the mercy of your friends. Then, if you don’t have much friends you will be lagging behind in classes, miss tests and assignments, which you can’t afford to if you want to be top of your class or in this case, one of the best students in class.

Resuming early has its advantages academically, they say the early bird catches the freshest worm right? Being relaxed and collected is one of the main advantages, you put together the courses you’ll study for the semester, and start studying.

2. Attend Classes:

Well I won’t lie to you, classes are helluva stressful, they tend to keep you in one place and suck your strength away. Some departments don’t make it easy at all like a friend in an eastern university, who has classes on Mondays nonstop from 8am till 6pm with a small recess from 1pm till 2pm, but you should not be fazed by this. Attendance are taken in classes, and in 90% of schools in Nigeria, being available in at least 75% of classes will increase your chances of scoring high in the course, because in some schools if you’re not available for at least the above percentage in classes you won’t be allowed to write exams. Aside from attendance, which you can maneuver, being in class gives you opportunity to understand the topic better, researchers believe that what you hear tends to linger in your memory. Cement that knowledge in your sub-conscious, which is something you need if you want to be one of the best students in your class.

3. Do all your assignments

Being a student involves being given loads of assignments to do, many of which is not part of your continuous assessment (C.A). Well I would admit that, but I would give you two reasons why you should do all those nerve wrecking assignments that those lecturers give you.

Firstly, those assignments are an essential part of your C.A, though the lecturer may not be able to use all of the assignments he gave all semester, he will surely use the ones he likes for his C.A.

Finally, apart from using it for C.A, assignments help students to understand the topic. You didn’t think that lecturers are wicked that’s why they give assignment; did you? Assignment are given so that students will be able to put down what they understood in the topic that was taught previously, researches are also given in the form of assignments so that the student will be able to find out more about the topic. If you plan on being one of the best students in your class, you have to be one step ahead by doing all your assignments.

4. Don’t forget to be visiting library:

The student that doesn’t visit the library can be seen as an unserious student, because the library is one of the places that is cool and calm enough for any serious person that wants to research or read. Though you can read in you comfort zone like hostel, common room or even in the class but the availability of books in the library is one of the advantages of visiting the library. When someone wants to read wide, the ideal place to visit is the library. So for you that is aiming higher, make library your close friend.

5. Have your personal timetable:

Utilizing every minutes of your time well is very necessary in life. As a student, don’t allow any minute to be a waste. Create your timetable and stick to it. Apart from normal lecture timetable that school brought out, have the one you use in your hostel. Even the Bible made it clear that there is time for everything; time to read, time to eat, time to play, time to fellowship and many others. What am saying in essence is that having a schedule time that control your daily activities is very important especially as a student that want to distinguish himself.

Others include….

6. Reading at least 3hrs each day
7. Being yourself
8. Last but not the least; not forgetting God
