The word success have a
lot of definitions which I believe that we all knew some of it. Success is a
daily word that we heard. We have read many articles, books and even tips about
success. But if I may ask, do you really know the meaning of success or are you
just trying to
pretend that you know it? Do you know what it takes to be
successful? Are you aware that there are some qualities that you must possess
to become a successful person? Are you finding it difficult to succeed in
everything you are trying to do?
In this post, I will be
enumerating on the stages of success. That is, the qualities that you must have
to become successful. Due to the uniqueness of the title of this post “Stages
of Success”, I will also like to call it “Destiny
Connection”. I called it destiny connection because I believe that after
reading this article, it will be able connect you to your desired destiny. So
before I proceed, I will like to define what success really mean.
Oxford Advanced
Learner’s Dictionary (8th edition) defined Success as “the fact that
you have achieved something that you have been trying to do or get, the fact of
becoming rich or famous or of getting a high social position”. Successful on
the other hand is defined as “achieving your aims or what was intended”.
Having known the actual
meaning of success, I will like to point out some important terms in that
definition. The first term is “achieving
something that you have been trying”, the second is “achieving your aims”.
I need success and you
also need success. In short, all humans need success but the problem now is
that many of us don’t know that before you achieve success, you must pass some
stages. They are not aware that there are some qualities one must possess
before achieving that success.
It was about last week
when I went for a program titled “Destiny
Connection” that I was able to get some points that I will be discussing
with you here.
Sometimes, what I used
to tell people that came to me for advice is that success is not something that
you can achieve in a day. It takes time but believe me that when you finally
achieve it, the joy that follows it will last long.
As a blogger, I have
experience some challenges in blogosphere but there is something I work with. I
worked with passion and patient because if not, I would have quit blogging for
a long time ago.
As a word usually say
that “to be a man is not easy” and
that “no food for a lazy man”. You
must work before you achieve success. There is no trick in achieving success.
It is what you give in that you will receive (in computer, it is called “garbage
in garbage out”, GIGO). So to this extent, I will be point out some stages and
qualities that you must possess in other to achieve success.

below are Stages of success
1. Purpose
I will like to start
with this point because it is one of the most important stage in achieving
success. Purpose is like a driver, it drives us to success. Purpose has the
same meaning as setting a goal, plan, aim, target or determination. When we set
a goal or target in everything we are doing, it will be easier for us to
achieve it because we already have an idea of where we are heading to.
Discovering our purpose
in this journey of life will make our life simple. For example, someone that
has the purpose of being a writer, because he has already set a goal, will
always like to be reading other person’s books thereby making his purpose easy
and simple.
In everything you do in
life, always have the reason for doing that. Always set a goal and be
determined.
2. Courage
Another point that
drives success is courage. Now that you have set a purpose, do you see yourself
as someone that will not achieve it? Are you feeling discourage in your
purpose? No need of being afraid. Even the Holy Bible make it clear that “it is
the quality of mind that doesn’t run from man during challenge”. Courage will
help you develop self-confidence. Therefore, develop courage and see yourself
moving to the success way.
Always have in mind
that courageous man doesn’t run away from challenges. If you want to study a
particular course in school, you must develop courage. If you have any purpose
in life, you must develop courage.

3. Passion
Passion is an intense enthusiasm for something. It is an intense emotion.
Men who won it in life was passionate. Learn how to talk passionately. When you
have passion for your goals, it will give you more courage to pursue it. Do not
involve yourself on the things that you don’t have passion for.
The
reason why I said that you should learn how to talk passionately is that there
are some situation that don’t require the ordinary you, it require your
emotion. Let’s take for example, here in my school, there are some lecturers
that when you visit them for help in their office with clear face, they will
not listen to you but if you meet them with passionate face, they will consider
you immediately.
But
in this post, what am talking about is being passionate about your goal. See
your purpose as something your life depend on.
4. Practice Mastery
I believe that by now,
you have developed passion and courage for that your goals, what is left for
you is to practice how to do it and do it well. Don’t accept second place; only
accept the first. In that your office, workshop or even in school, always
practice how to be the best. Only compare yourself in what you can do.
Assuming that you want
to be a musician, you have to practice how to sing very well, if you want to be
an inspirational writer, you must practice how to be the best by reading other
person’s write up.
The sense that am
trying to make here is that you should try to beat everybody down especially
when it comes to your life goal.
5. Patience
Here is another
important stages of success. Patience is an internal quality that everyone supposed
to have. An impatience person will always lose or miss out. Since success is
not that easy to achieve, we must learn how to be patient in everything we are
doing. There is no disappointment greater than when one worked tirelessly
without seeing the outcome of it.
It amused me when some
of my friends that I introduced into blogosphere tell me that they want to quite
blogging because they are not gaining anything from it instead that they are
wasting their money in data subscription. They aim was to make money from
blogging within a week or so, but I told them that patience leads in
everything. That they will be surprise when they will start eating the fruit of
their labor. I use to tell them to cool and continue blogging.
The same applies to
each and every one of us. In anything that you are doing in life, always work
with patience.
6. Network
The last but not the
least is Networking. Believe in people. Connect with people and employ them i.e.
bring them close and make them friends. I don’t believe in the ideology that “all
people are the same when it comes character/behavior”. I believe that good
people still exist. When you make friends, you are creating a chance for your
future. Don’t use because someone disappointed you before to say that you will not
make friends or connect with people anymore.
I was discussing with one of my course mates
last week on how good it is to make friends especially in this our university level.
I told him that nobody knows tomorrow, that we might be of help to each other
in future, he might have connection with high people more than I do or that I may
help him in getting job in future. The discussion lasted long because he was
arguing that no need to make more friends. That the one he has right from
primary education to secondary education will be enough for him.
The sense that I want to
derive here is that connecting with people is one of the stages of success. Friends
can sponsor you when you don’t have enough capital/money to start up a project
or any business.
I will like to end this
particular point with the text message that one of my school friends sent to me
a week ago, though he ask it as a question. It read “Do know that friends are
the contributing factor to a man’s success according to knowledge?”
Conclusion:
Since
success is not something that we can achieve in a day and there are some
qualities we must possess, it will be better if we can follow the above simple
stages. I believe that when we follow the above stages, it will made our
success achievement easy and simple.
