“It takes courage...to endure the sharp pains of self
discovery rather than choose to take the dull pain of unconsciousness that
would last the rest of our lives.”
― Marianne Williamson
A lot of people live their life without discovering the
actual thing that bring them to this world. They live their
life depending on
what each day provides. While some people are busy doing something that will
not yield anything in their life. They waste their time on unnecessary things.
All this was because they have not actually discover themselves, what they are
capable of doing, their potentials, and your equity.
In today's post, I will be writing on the ways in which you
can discover yourself, that is, what you are capable of doing, your potentials.
But before I continue, what do you understand by the term "Discovering
Self?" Or "Self Discovering?"
Self-discovery is the ability of one to know or discover
what he/she is capable of doing. I can expatiate on this definition by saying
that self-discovery is the ability of one to discover his/her future, potentials,
and many others.
I recall last year when I was in the church on Sunday and
our Revered talked about self-discovery. He said many things about it and how
one can work towards discovering. What he said touched my life in the sense
that when I got back to my hostel, I began to think about it, yes! I thought
about it deeply. I ask myself some questions concerning this topic. Whether I
was on the right track of life or if I was just whining away my precious time.
Many people were not aware of self-discovering, they always
walk based on the shadow that lead them. When you did not discover yourself, it
can lead to many disastrous in life. It can cause injuring to the mind and
soul. It can even lead to untimely death. Yes, because when one is doing
something that makes him feel uncomfortable, it can cause unhealthy life.
Little wonder why many people jump from one career to the other.
After reading this post, you are going to ask yourself some
questions concerning the kind of life you are living, whether you have discovered
yourself or you are still wasting time on unnecessary things. If you believe
you have discovered yourself already, great! It’s left for you to maintain it
because things around you actually make you to deviate from it. Without any
delay, I will be pointing out some steps you can follow to discover yourself.
5 Ways To Discover
Yourself
- Have a specific Dream/Vision
Having a specific dream
is one of the way for self-discovering. This is also the same as visualizing
your future. When you have a dream, something that you look up to, it will
enable you to focus on one direction. Many people suffer today just because
they do not have any planned future.
“Your vision will become
clear only when you can look into your own heart. Who looks outside, dreams;
who looks inside, awakes.” – Carl Jung
Having a dream is never
too late. You can create a dream even as old as you are now. Don’t say because
of your age, you can no longer change what you are not comfortable with. Build
a dream today!
- Think Positive
Negative thought kill our
dreams and it makes us unable to discover our self. When we isolate our life
with negative thought and act, there is no possibility of us discovering our
potentials. But when we nurture our mind and soul with positive thoughts, it
will enhance our spirit to look for something that will better our lives. There
is power in the words of our mouth that is why it is good to always wish
yourself good.
“You are essentially who
you create yourself to be and all that occurs in your life is the result of
your own making.” ― Stephen Richards
So therefore, in other
for you to discover yourself, always abdicate yourself from negative thought.
Think positive by looking around your environment to know how it will help you
discover the real self in you.
- Always surround yourself with Positive friends.
This particular point
matters a lot in life. Since the kind of people we associate ourselves with can
influence our lives, it is advisable to always isolate yourself with positive
people. People that can impact good ideas in you. People that have what it
takes to activate your destiny.
The best place to find
such friends are in the school, offices, business area and many others. If you
are in school, always mingle with people that share the same dream with you.
The mistake that most people made was that they don’t care to look at their friend’s
life and characters, whether it is affecting him/her.
“Surround yourself with smart, dedicated people
- to build something isn't a one-man show. It's more important to have smart
people who really believe in what you're doing than really experienced people
who may not share your dream”. - Niklas Zennstrom
- Always engage yourself in one good thing
"An idle mind is the
devil’s workshop” is a popular word that we heard almost every day. It is only
when you don’t have doing any reasonable things that negative thought will come
into you. But when you engage yourself or keep yourself busy, you will see
yourself discovering your true self.
“Enroll your body, soul
and spirit and engage your time to do what you know best. Dedicate yourself to
the work at hand and you will be rewarded by the fruits you will bear!”
― Israelmore Ayivor
As a graduate that don’t
have job for now, don’t sit down and wait for when you will get job. There is
something you can do, go out and find it. Who knows, that might be the way you
can discover yourself? Though, am still a student but it will not stop me from engaging
myself in other things that can contribute to my life because nobody knows tomorrow,
or do you? I doubt you don’t have any answer to this rhetorical question.
- Last but not the least, Don’t forget to always meditate
You have created a dream
but what is left for you is to nurture it by meditating always on it. You may
be asking yourself what meditation have to do with self discovering but the
true fact is that meditating on your dream can actually help improve how you
quest to achieve it. It can trigger your molar to work harder. It is during
this meditation that you can be able to ascertain whether you are walking on
the right path or not.
“Meditation brings wisdom;
lack of mediation leaves ignorance. Know well what leads you forward and what
hold you back, and choose the path that leads to wisdom”. - Buddha
So, for you to discover
your true self, you have to map out at least few minutes each day to think,
meditate and appreciate your creator. Also cease that chance to appreciate
yourself.
